Dr. Nicole Ullrich Honored with NF Northeast’s Research and Impact Award for Pioneering Contributions to Neurofibromatosis (NF) Research and Patient Care
BOSTON, November 5, 2024 — Neurofibromatosis Northeast is thrilled to announce that Dr. Nicole Ullrich will receive the prestigious Research and Impact Award in recognition of her unwavering commitment to neurofibromatosis (NF) research and the treatment of patients and families affected by this complex condition. This award, which honors Dr. Ullrich’s lifelong dedication to advancing clinical care, research, and education, will be presented by Lori Ryan, Chair of the Medical and Scientific Committee at NF Northeast.
With an impressive background in Pediatrics, Neurology, and Neuro-Oncology, Dr. Ullrich is currently Professor of Neurology at Harvard Medical School and serves as an NF expert at Boston Children’s Hospital, where she and her team work with multidisciplinary specialists to provide comprehensive care to nearly 500 patients each year. She has also been instrumental in the design and implementation of clinical trials and targeted therapies for complications of NF through the Neurofibromatosis Clinical Trials Consortium, which she has been involved with since its inception in 2005. Dr. Ullrich is at the forefront of research, having contributed to the recent update of diagnostic criteria for NF, which has opened the door towards development and testing of medications that may help with treatment or prevention of NF-based complications in the future.
Over her distinguished career, Dr. Ullrich has been a guiding force in NF research, clinical care, and patient support initiatives. As a valued member of the NF Northeast Medical and Scientific Committee, Dr. Ullrich has championed innovative research grants and mentored young investigators in the field, helping to expand the community of experts dedicated to understanding and treating NF. Dr. Ullrich’s contributions to the NF community exemplify the spirit of the Research and Impact Award, and NF Northeast is proud to honor her achievements.
