Neurofibromatosis Northeast is pleased to announce that Lori Ryan, RN, MS, is its new Chair of the Board of Directors.
Ms. Ryan, a resident of Wilmington MA, has been on the Board of NF Northeast for over 7 years and was most recently Secretary of the organization. She was unanimously elected Chair at a recent meeting of the Board of Directors.
Lori has helped raise awareness about NF both locally and nationally as well as raise much needed funds for research. She has served as Chair of the Medical and Scientific Committee and is a member of the Strategic Planning Committee. Lori founded the Annual Steps2Cure NF run/walk and created and oversees the NF Scholarship Program. The scholarships are awarded to assist persons with NF to continue their education after high school.
Lori advocates annually on Capitol Hill for NF research funding through the Department of Defense’s Congressionally-directed Medical Research Program and has served on this program’s peer review panels to review NF research proposals. She has attended numerous NF-related conferences and meetings to help facilitate NF research and help ensure the NF community is well represented. She also volunteers and participates in various NF Northeast fundraising events. With a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Nursing and a Master’s Degree in the Healthcare Administration field, Lori has worked in the clinical research field for over twenty years. Because of her clinical research background, she has a realistic view and appreciation for the drug development process and the challenges involved in it when helping the organization facilitate and support research for effective and safe treatments for NF.
Karen Peluso, NF Northeast’s Executive Director, said “We are absolutely thrilled to have Lori Ryan as our new Board Chair. Lori is a dedicated and devoted supporter of NF Northeast and brings years of experience that is perfectly aligned to where we are headed as an organization. NF Northeast is poised for significant growth and Lori is exactly what we need at the moment to help drive the change that is taking place. It is a very exciting time and to have Lori as Chair is just ideal.”
